First delivered to Purdue Airlines in July 1969, MSN 47376 would join the Republic Airlines fleet two years later in 1971. She would later fly for Republic, Northwest Airlines and finally Delta Air Lines after several mergers. Her last revenue flight was NW1740 in May of 2008 from Nashville to Detroit before being ferried to Marana, AZ where she sits among company DC-9s in front of the beautiful Tortolita and Catalina Mountain ranges.

Launching off 28 non stop to Accra, Ghana this storied DC-10 first joined the National Airlines fleet in June of 1973 before merging into Pan Am. From there MSN 46712 flew for American Airlines, Transaero Airlines, Hawaiian Air and finally Ghana Airways. Only months after this photo was taken the airline collapsed. The aircraft was stored at BWI for some time before being ferried to Marana, AZ. I would later meet up with this exact airframe at KMZJ years later.

Perched on top of NASA's 747 shuttle carrier N905NA, OV-103/Discovery arrives her final resting place at Washington Dulles International Airport. Over the next several days she will be prepared for inducted into the Smithsonian Udvar Hazy Center at KIAD. Reentry marks can still be seen on OV-103 after her final mission in February of 2011.

The end of the line for this DC-9-31 at Pinal Air Park. First delivered to North Central Airlines in May of 1969 she would later fly for Republic during the merger of 1979. In 1986 she would join the Northwest Airlines fleet through another merger and after performing her last commercial flight would ferry to Marana, AZ in March of 2005.

NWA283 performing a rare powerback under it's own power from Gate A49 prior to departure to Memphis, TN. Delivered to Eastern Air Lines in June of 1967, this classic DC-9-30 would remain in commercial passenger service for a full 43 years before being retired from the Delta Air Lines fleet in August of 2010.

The Queen of the Skies captured under the midnight Sonoran Desert sky at Pinal Air Park as a helicopter from the Silverbell Army Heliport takes off in the background. Delivered to Air France in February of 1976 MSN 21141 would later join the TWA fleet for a short lived period of time to supplement the busy summer/holiday travel period. Picacho Peak can be seen just under the nose of this classic 747-100 as near silence makes for an eerie atmosphere amid all the stored aircraft.

The cargo hold of a rare Airbus A310-203. First delivered to KLM in March of 1985 this short widebody airliner would be converted to cargo configuration in 1997 and before flying for Federal Express. She was finally retired and flown to Victorville, CA for storage in 2016.

SWA2455 makes its way to 25R for departure to Tulsa Oklahoma after a massive thunderstorm passed over Sky Harbor revealing beautiful rainbows in the evening sun. MSN 30248 was first delivered to EasyJet in April of 2002 before joining the Easter Jet fleet in June of 2009. Finally in April of 2014 this -700 joined the Southwest Airlines fleet.

In May 1976, both British Airways and Air France began operating services to Washington. I remember as a kid in the early 90s British Airways' Concorde would fly directly over our house on downwind for Runway 1R/19L after completing its journey from London in three hours.

This amazing classic -200 wearing Aloha's retro Funbird livery was first delivered to Lufthansa in January of 1985. She joined the Aloha fleet in December of 1996 and remained with the airline until retirement in 2008 when she was flown to Mojave, CA where she was broken up in 2015.
