I remember that tradgic day. With sadness.

Yes, very tragic. According to airdisaster.com, there were 23 fatalities.

I witnessed this aircraft landing on the run way in Nortern Kentucky. It was a very sad day. The chutes opened and people slid down them to save their lives. An image I will never forget.

I lost my dear uncle in this tragic fire. I remember the night we saw the burning airliner on the news and knew Robby was in Dallas on business. He was scheduled to take a flight the following morning, but wanted to surprise his wife, Judy and their two boys, my cousins, Tom and Joey (aged 7 and 9 at the time) by coming home a day early. We didn't receive confirmation that he was actually on flight 797 until 3:00 a.m. Robby was only 39, a wonderful father, a very spiritual man and is missed every day by his family. His wife, my aunt, sadly died of breast cancer 9 years following the accident. My two cousins are now without a father and a mother.... When I saw the burning aircraft on the news that night in '83, I hoped and prayed that Robby was not coming home early, but somehow my mother knew that he was gone... if anyone has any information on his last moments, please post them here. I'm sure he would have helped many passengers stay calm and collected. He was loved by all.

This is the first time that I have seen this photo and was not able at the time to get to many pictures of the scene to help bring closure. I lost both of my grandparents in this plane on that dreadful day. I not only lost 2 grandparents on that day I also lost my 2 best friends. I would like to thank any of the other passengers and crew members for any help that they possibly gave both of them. They have both been missed dearly through all these years and the greatest thing is that I will get to be with them again one day.

Anyone know what was the cause of this dreadful crash?

We lost the great Canadian singer Stan Rogers in this accident. Unbelievable to see it like this.

The fire started in or around one of the lavatories.

I remember watching this incident on Air Crash Investigations. That has got to be one of a cabin crew's worst fears....

At first you think the picture is a bit fuzzy, but at a closer glance you realize that other parts of the picture are quite clear. It's actually because of the smoke billowing out of the aircraft that the sky is smokey even as far away as this plane obviously was.

On a geographical note, the fire actually occurred notin Cincinatti, but in Boone County Kentucky at the Cincinatti-Northern Kentucky International Airport.
